News October 2010: Hussy is currently in Tamworth to be bred to Peptos Stylish Oak.
Hussy was started under saddle as a 2yo in 2008 by Barbara and showed great talent early on. Unfortunatly Barbara broke her ankle soon after, and Hussy did not get ridden for the next 6 months as a result. We then sent her to Steve Elks for cutting training (2009), and once again she showed great promise as very cowy, if very little mare. However, she injured her hip, and as a result needed to be ridden with a lot of collection to keep her sound. This ruled out a career in cutting as we had planned for her. As a result of her injury she also lost her awesome stop, which ruled out reining as an alternative career.
I decided to breed her as a 4yo, so I spent 2010 taking her out there, having some fun. And fun we had, as she demonstrated her trainable nature by competing, and winning at Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Reining and Halter. At only 14hh she could hardly deny her cutting pedigree, but what she lacked in size she made up with smoothness and trainability.
After only 6 months of showing she dominated the High-Point titles at the North Coast Western Riders Club, taking home the top awards for Junior Horse, Western Horse, and PHAA Halter. I also decided to take her cutting once (at 3years old), just to get a feel what kind of cutting horse she could have made, and she rewarded me with a gutsy 69 on tough Brahman cattle (1/2 point out of the placings), but her soreness in the hind end returned after some of the hard stops.
Hussy is now retired to our broodmare band, and is currently being bred to Peptos Stylish Oak.
